How To Quickly Dry Your Hair In The Winter

Cold weather can make our usual beauty care routines a bit trickier— and this is especially true when it comes to our hair. Of course, air-drying is healthier than blow drying. But the winter can make air-drying a bit more difficult than it is in the summer. Instead of being able to walk outside and let the sun dry your hair within minutes, during the winter,  it’s only a matter of time before your hair turns to icicles that you can literally snap in half.

Plus, letting your hair air dry in the cold weather can actually be hazardous to your health since wet strands cause to heat escape from your body; on top of leaving you even chillier and susceptible to a cold, this can make hair frizzy.

Fortunately, there are ways to ensure your hair dries fast even when it’s cold outside.

Invest In The Right Products

When it comes to speeding up your hair’s drying process, remember that the cleaner, the better. Rinse out every bit of shampoo and conditioner and periodically use a clarifying shampoo to remove any product buildup.

A leave-in conditioner is another great product for the colder months when our locks tend to be their driest. Leave-in conditioners help maintain moisture while controlling frizz.

Be Careful With Brushing

Half of ensuring your hair dries quickly is what you do immediately after the shower while your locks are still wet. To minimize breakage and damage to the hair cuticles, use a microfiber towel or a cotton t-shirt.

Avoid using a brush to de-tangle it. Instead, use a wide-tooth comb, starting from the ends and gently working your way to the roots. Also, another common mistake to avoid is wrapping it in a towel while getting ready, as this actually delays the drying process.

Proper Prepping And Blow-Drying

If you don’t plan on using a blow dryer, as your hair air-dries, continuously brush it back. This will create a more textured and smooth end-result without the need for much styling.

If you do blow dry it, use a brush that allows air to pass through the back of the brush. Avoid using your fingers to comb through your hair as you run the hot air through it, as this can increase damage and broken strands.

Forgoing The Frizz

One of the biggest issues women face with air-drying hair is frizz. And while there are many products and heavy cream stylers out there promising to help you eliminate frizz, be careful about which you choose, as they can make your hair heavier and, in turn, take longer to dry.

Stick with leave-in conditioners and serums. If you only have time to dry part of your hair, do the roots first and work your way down. If some of your ends are left damp, as you can always twist them away from your face to style them naturally. You can also opt for a braid or low bun to tame hair.

Whenever possible, try to let your hair air-dry overnight while you sleep. But if that’s not an option, just follow the steps above for luscious locks— no matter what time of year!
