Test Foundation On Your Skin
Test foundation on your face, not your hand! Pick a couple of colors and swipe them around your jawline. The color that seemingly disappears in your skin is the color you should pick. Foundation isn’t supposed to compliment your skin tone, it’s supposed to match — perfectly match!
Remember The Changing Season
The foundation you need in the summer is different than the foundation you need in the winter! Your skin changes colors throughout the year and you need to swap out your makeup to match.
Avoid SPF
Does this go against everything you’ve ever heard? I know SPF if the answer to everything, but I recommend staying away from a foundation that contains SPF. These types of foundations are usually watery and don’t go on as smoothly. Have a separate sunscreen and apply it after your moisturizer and before your foundation to make sure your skin is protected!
Consider Your Brush
It might not be the foundation you have a problem with. It could be your makeup brush. In order for a foundation to lay perfectly on the skin, it needs to be applied with the right tool. I’m a personal fan of beauty blenders because they work very well at keeping the makeup natural looking. However, it’s completely up to you what tool you want to use. As long as it works!
Don’t Forget To Prep Your Skin
Not only should you pay attention to the makeup brushes you’re using, but you should also pay attention to the way you’re prepping your skin. Putting foundation on dry, dirty skin isn’t going to make your makeup look flawless. You need to exfoliate, cleanse, tone, and moisturize your skin before applying any makeup. Remove the dirt and unblock your dead skin cells so your pores can open and therefore, be better prepared for the makeup you’re going to apply.
